About Department
The department of Science and Humanities has faculty members who are exponents in their fields. A dynamic team of well qualified and committed individuals make up this department which scaffolds the ongoing innovations at Kings College of Engineering. The Science and Humanities department consistently upgrades its subject domains by presenting and publishing papers in national and international conferences / journals. This helps them to be updated with the current developments of the field and effectively bring these developments into the classrooms for the augmentation of the subject.
Fundamental and core skills of engineering both theory and practical are taught to the students by the faculty members which helps them gain a better foothold in their main domain. Every year before commencement of regular first year classes, the department organizes bridge courses for Physics, Maths and Python programming as per guidelines given by Anna University. The department also organizes orientation programme to develop Communication skills among the students. Every year, the department conducts paper presentation contests and project expo to promote research aspiration.
Department of English
Department of English of our college has an excellent collection of audio-video teaching aids to help students improve their spoken English. A full-fledged language laboratory with multimedia facilities has been set up to facilitate students to prepare for TOEFL, GRE and IELTS. Faculty members take special efforts to help students improve their communication skills.
Department of Mathematics
Department of mathematics has a team of accomplished faculty members; they teach the students with novel approach and focus on improving problem solving and analytical skills. They also give special coaching for lateral entry students.
Department of Physics
The study of Physics uncovers the mysteries of nature through the knowledge of properties of matter. In the Physics laboratory, adequate equipment and instruments are available for performing all types of experiments involving light and other forms of energy. The faculty members of the department have wide research experience in Nanocrystals. Their expertise helps the students to gain exposure in research and industry.
Department of Chemistry
The Department comprises of a goal oriented group of highly qualified, experienced and dynamic faculty members. All the faculty members are doctoral degree holders whose areas of expertise and research include Corrosion, Polymer Chemistry, Kinetics Adsorption, Water treatment, Environmental Science, Electrochemistry and Nanotechnology. The Department has independent laboratory fully equipped with instruments and advanced equipment for teaching and research activities. The faculty members encourage the students in research activities and paper presentation in seminar/conferences/workshop etc.

Chemistry Laboratory
The department encourages students to perform experiments individually and special care is taken to strengthen their knowledge in the fundamentals of Chemistry.
The department has excellent laboratory facilities with required chemicals, glasswares and equipment. At a time, 35 students can perform experiments and facilitates the faculty to have individual attention.
Physics Laboratory
The genesis of Engineering is embedded in the Pure Sciences and Physics in particular. The department of Physics provides the facility to carry out hands on experiments in Engineering Physics both theory and laboratory for the first and second semester students. At a time, 35 students are allowed to perform the experiments, resulting in individual attention to each student by the faculty. Latest instruments are utilized to perform experiments. Number of experiments range from the beginner’s level of measuring an instrument to the advanced level including all core areas of engineering physics.
English Language Laboratory
English Language & Communication Skills are offered to the students to prepare them to communicate in English with clarity and confidence. As English language proficiency is a pre-requisite in today’s global market, English Language Lab, with establishments to the tune of Rs. 30 lakhs, is designed to enhance students’ language skills, thus increasing employability and ensuring a successful career.

The department of Science and Humanities were established in the year 2001. It is well equipped with research laboratories and has dedicated staff members. The department has highly qualified faculty members with Ph.Ds. in diverse fields. They have several publications in reputed international and national journals and also organized many conferences and seminars. The Department of Science and Humanities initiates and prepares the students to achieve critical thinking, the ability to innovate, work in multicultural environments, and adapt to professional courses. It typically focuses on providing a strong base in basic sciences and humanities to first-year students, preparing them for their specialized engineering courses. Courses such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, English, Tamil and also incorporating Environmental Science taught by the Department of Science and Humanities during the first year, facilitate a better understanding of the courses of their specialization. The Science and Humanities courses impart essential skills like effective communication, leadership skills, and team spirit in the first year of Engineering. The faculty focuses on moulding quality engineers who are capable of making great contributions for a better tomorrow. The curriculum and syllabi are designed and periodically updated to meet the societal and technological needs of the times.
