About Department
The department of Mechanical Engineering was started in the year 2006 with an intake of 60 students and further increased to 120. The department offers 4 year B.E. programme in Mechanical Engineering and 2 year M.E. programme in Thermal Engineering. The department is recognized as a research center by the Anna University, Chennai, to carry out Full time/Part time research leading to Ph.D. Degree.
The department has highly experienced and dedicated faculty and well established laboratories to provide theoretical and practical exposure to the students. Innovative, interactive teachings are used with structured student centric course plan and delivery.

Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs)
Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering curriculum is designed to impart Knowledge, Skill and attitude on the graduates to,
- PEO1: Effectuate success in careers by exploring design, digital and computational analysis of engineering systems, experimentation, testing, smart manufacturing, technical services, and research.
- PEO2: Amalgamate effectively with stakeholders to update and enhance core competencies and abilities to ethically compete in the ever-changing multicultural global enterprise.
- PEO3: Encourage multidisciplinary research and development to foster advanced technologies, and nurture innovation and entrepreneurship to compete successfully in the global economy.
- PEO4: Globally share and apply technical knowledge to create new opportunities that advance society through teamwork and to solve diverse technical, environmental, and societal challenges.
- PEO5: Develop world-class mechanical engineers capable of practicing ethically and aspiring to become visionary leaders in academia, industry, and society.
Program Outcomes (POs)
- PO1 – Engineering Knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
- PO2 – Problem Analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyse complex engineering problems to reach substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
- PO3 – Design/Development of Solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, and cultural, societal, and environmental factors.
- PO4 – Conduct Investigations of Complex Problems: Use research-based knowledge and methods, including experimental design, data analysis, interpretation, and information synthesis, to arrive at valid conclusions.
- PO5 – Modern Tool Usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools—including prediction and modelling—to complex engineering activities, with an understanding of their limitations.
- PO6 – The Engineer and Society: Apply contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal, and cultural issues and understand the responsibilities relevant to professional engineering practice.

Program Specific Objectives (PSOs)
On successful completion of the Mechanical Engineering Degree programme, the Graduates shall exhibit the following:
- PSO1: Apply the knowledge gained in Mechanical Engineering for the design, development, and manufacture of engineering systems.
- PSO2: Apply acquired knowledge to investigate research-oriented problems in Mechanical Engineering with due consideration for environmental and social impacts.
- PSO3: Utilize engineering analysis and data management tools for the effective management of multidisciplinary projects.
Scope & Job Oppourtunities
Graduates in mechanical engineering find employment opportunities in the diversified branches of the mechanical field. Mechanical engineers are employed in manufacturing, fabrication, research and development, and service industries such as Railways, Aviation, Automobile Industry, Power plants etc.

Clubs and Activities
Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Memorial Foundation was started in the year 2015 with the core objective to visualize green KINGS through environment protection and plantation of more trees in and around the campus.
The target of foundation is to plant trees equal to students’ strength and to make the campus pollution free . Every year, on behalf of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Memorial Foundation, the students celebrate the birthday of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam as “Plantation day” to create awareness among the students and public regarding the importance of ecology and the natural environment.
In addition to Tree plantation, the foundation also extends support during various natural calamities and medical emergencies.
